The Zona Romántica — Colonia Emiliano Zapata, "Old Town" — is the most walkable neighborhood in Puerto Vallarta: Los Muertos pier, the Olas Altas cafés, Basilio Badillo's restaurant row and, in winter, the Saturday farmers market at Lázaro Cárdenas park. Rentals here are condos with rooftop pools, restored casas with courtyards and boutique-hotel suites, most of them a few blocks from the sand.
The trade-off is kitchen size. Old Town kitchens are often compact, and that is exactly the situation we plan for: we prep what we can ahead, bring portable induction and grill equipment when needed, and cook a full plated dinner from a two-burner galley. Tables go up on the rooftop for the sunset over the bay, or in the courtyard under the bougainvillea. No 8 pm wait, no walking home uphill.
